can i post something positive about twig . i have to post one positive thing about twig because i somehow never thought to say it during my liveblog during the parts that were overall fun. it is kind of an awesome encapsulating character building detail that's like. A complete summary of sy's relationship with lillian. that she hates being called lil and he just straight up forces it over the course of their relationship until it becomes a pet name. and, like, she's clearly affectionate of it by then, but he forced it. she hated it and he kept using it until she stopped hating it. deeply encapsulating. kdj has a good way of describing the scene in as few words as possible (specifically, this description of the broken bridge). broad brushstrokes, as it were. i need to remember that.

The current Yoo Joonghyuk would never hesitate for the sake of his purpose.' - see, this is a much more nuanced and empathetic description than 'lost his humanity' in the webtoon translation. like killing people for your own purposes is not just as human a thing to do as choosing to save other people. it always struck me as a particularly harsh way to word yjh's personality change, esp. when yjh is kdj's blorbo and kdj knows how yjh got to this point.....i think the webtoon in general tries to flatten kdj's low and high points to make him more plateable for a wider audience, which i noticed when comparing scenes side by side for my fic. which is exactly why i prefer reading the source material of stories over any adaptation - things get lost in the medium translation even with the best adaptations.

kdj specifically calls yjh a professional gamer. which is good because i literally can't see yjh streaming to any audience pre-scenarios except maybe for contract-mandated team streams. he can't perform on command and doesn't give a shit about entertaining anyone except maybe his family. bad karoke aside lol

'Yet Kim Namwoon died and the others survived.' - huh. i guess yjh saw them through the window....but shouldn't they have seen him through the window when he was kicking down the door? maybe he shattered the window after his first kick and made it hard to see through, especially if the window has wire mesh

'I started telling the story. I told the story using as much concise, short, and accurate vocabulary as possible.' - yup, that's how kdj tells stories. at least he's honest about this.

Liveblogging Harley Quinn Season 2 Episode 6 – All the Best Inmates Have Daddy Issues

Well, that’s a fun title. The obvious guess would be that Harley’s father makes a return, but we know from S1E05 that King Shark also has had issues with his father and the portrayal of Ivy’s relationship with hers in... Harley Quinn Highway? wasn’t so hot either. I’ve also seen what appeared to be screencaps of Harleen Quinzel and the version of Ivy from the season one finale (sidenote: has our fandom come up with a name for that aesthetic, like [something]!Ivy or whatever?) interacting, I assume those are from this episode since it was leaked in, like, Russia. Maybe dream sequences? If we’re dealing with psychological issues then Dr. Psycho’s mind-entering thing might be coming into play again. Then again, last episode seemed to be leading into a conflict with Bane and/or Two-Face, maybe we’ll be exploring one of their backstories? If so, I’m not sure how what I saw fits in, but for all I know it could just be some really accurate fanart or something. I have another dozen possibilities I’d like to mention but that seems tedious both to write and to read, so I’m just going to stop here. Oh, except I want to predict whether Sy will be in this episode: I’m gonna say no.

Starting off with some kick-ass music! Assuming they were alive, and that our genders/sexualities were compatible, I’d say marry Freeze, fuck Kite-Man (hell yeah!), kill Joker. Fries seems like a really great person to be in a relationship with, and while Kite-Man (hell yeah!) works well with Ivy I feel like he’s the type of person I would not want to be around for an extended length of time. Joker’s pretty obviously ‘kill’ because I don’t want to catch HPV from him (and also the obvious reasons). I wonder what Harley would’ve picked...

Did they recast the voice actor? Because Alan Tudyk has a lot of range but I don’t think that’s him. Then again, this guy doesn’t actually look much like The Joker to me either, so maybe the reason his voice is different is because Harley/Ivy are barking up the wrong tree.

Wait, is Harley not famous? Between her time near the then-most newsworthy villain in the city, then showing up on talk shows and the news, then her mother’s mention of how the neighborhood treated her poorly because everybody knew of what Harley had become, the raised street (with loop-de-loops) crediting her, the LoD’s press release when she joined, Joker’s wanted posters with her face on it, and Barbara recognizing her the minute her makeup came partially off I feel like the show has been portraying her as a household name.

Oh shit, flashback time! That pretty much confirms that what I saw is coming up, though I’m confused why [something]!Ivy is going to be here. Is that maybe also how she used to look? Also, Harley’s proof is totally going to be whatever pre-therapy Ivy was like, right?

Ngl, I thought that Harvey was Bruce until he started speaking. Also, I suppose he could be her proof, but that wouldn’t be as narratively satisfying as showing both us and Ivy her growth (no pun intended). And as long as we’re talking about Arkham chewing up psychologists, it would be cool if Crane made a cameo.

Wow, Harleen actually seemed grossed out by getting blood on her - didn’t episode five imply she was already killing people by this point?

He did appear, and so did a few other members of the rogues gallery. Shoutout to Riddler’s luxurious hair - I wonder if its naturally like that or if he’s somehow getting hair-care products while incarcerated. (also “Fuck off, Narc” is a great line for one of those soulmate AUs where the people have a birthmark in the shape of the first words that their soulmate says to them)

Harley just took a clipboard with a metal clip on it through what was clearly a metal detector. I don’t have a lot of personal experience with them, but I’m pretty sure that should have set it off. While I’m guessing that this is a mistake I suppose it could be a demonstration of how unreliable the security here is.

Is the coconut-lover getting another appearance weird to anybody else? At this point I feel like the writers may be ramping up to something with her character.

I could definitely make some jokes about the “I hate spunk” line, but I feel like that’s a bit too obvious. (that’s a lie, I tried but none of them were funny)

Jason Todd actually existed in this continuity? Based off how obviously lost Bruce was when trying to parent Damien I figured he hadn’t had a Robin before him.

It occurs to me that Gordon and Two-face actually interacted in the first episode of the season, I wonder if their prior relationship was alluded to in that scene.

Okay, the line “You wanna know how I got these emotional scars” might be the cleverest bit of writing this show has produced.

Also, so far I’ve been assuming this was an accurate retelling of what happened but I just remembered how warped Harley’s worldview is and am wondering how trustworthy any of this is. Then again, she wouldn’t know what Harvey said to that sniper. So maybe the beginning was just to set up the flashback, and not actually an indication that this is filtered through Harley’s perspective? (As of the end of the episode I’m still not sure)

ok ok ok im so desperate for romance im starting sh*oot your shot but yall should know - blacklist this tag if you dont want to see hate because i cant stand this author. unless this book is surprisingly good this is gonna be a hate listen lol (for free on the app). i really dont support the authors methods of building a career by shitting on all the already established authors in the sphere she wants to join.

also like. she made her protagonist an artist.

i mostly avoid reading any books about 'artists' written by non artists. because they just never vibe. so prepare for me to roast this womans depiction of an artist lifestyle. i will make sure to point out everything she gets wrong. because thats how this author goes right? :)

also also i am a little curious at the expert hockey facts she is intending to reveal here.

maybe it's because i have never been considered 'hot' my entire life even when i wasnt ill and was at least passably dateable and im bitter, but if the only 'romance' in a romance is literally just 'he's so Hot, she's so Hot, they make out hotly! and then get angry at each other because their hotness is so conflicting and they dont have enough personality to sustain any other kind of plot'.... im already bored.

im also not getting a lot of insider hockey information from this. at least nothing i couldn't find out from google or documentaries. you know who has an actually interesting take on hockey life? alyonka la*rionov! her podcasts and interviews are insightful and interesting and from the perspective of a woman who has had two looks into the world both as a daughter and as a career. like the tidbits she knew about the life of supporting a hockey player and dealing with the mental pressure of the sports lifestyle were fascinating.

btw full disclosure i did go through a phase of trying to listen to hockey romances last spring and i think the only hockey romance where i actually enjoyed it and made it through the whole book was the one where the female main character was so magically Hot and Sexy with magical hypnotizing breasts that she ended up in a poly relationship with like the goalie, and a forward, and i think a bitter injured player dude? i lost count at one point. everyone was bi and everyone was having sex with everyone else and there was actually not much conflict at all just a lot of shared hottness. im personally one of the painfully monogamous to a fault bisexual types so all the poly shipping was a little shocking and scandalous for me. but truly the book transcended not being relatable and jumped into such insane levels of absurd that it was extremely entertaining. the woman character would meet a dude and i would think oh ok THIS is the love interest. but then she just... kept collecting love interests. like pokemon. it was wild. and trust me in that book the hockey did not matter one bit lmao.

so yeah. thats my bar for quality in romances usually.

honestly my biggest disappointment in this book was that despite the premise, and aside from a bunch of poorly written Hockey Facts that broke the flow of the novel horribly.... there was zero insider knowledge that even someone with as little knowledge about hockey as me couldn't have gotten from watching documentaries and reading other hockey books. there wasn't any particularly compelling wag perspective. instead it was just another romance novel that was slightly worse than your average romance novel.

well. it happened. i knew this book was going to bring up the Crazy Fans (tm) and sure enough the main female character gets real scared on her wedding day that an obsessed fangirl took Speak Now too seriously and will crash through the door to try and stop it. never mind the fact that at the start of the book her famous hockey player thought she was a crazy obsessed stalker fan. the final icing on the Not Like Other Girls cake. being a fan isnt creepy when the main character is the one doing it. because shes Special.

to top it all off, this girl is happy because she got her ideal wedding. she even admits that this is probably not her boyfriends ideal wedding because it doesn't include any of his family that he is extremely close with, but her way is the only way because shes Quirky and Special and Artistic and Better than everyone else. her boyfriend also made sure to propose to her in the exact way she wanted because compromise doesnt exist in this relationship.

oh and he is happy because he married the woman he loves. awwww. 🙃 this sounds like a real winner of a marriage. no red flags set up for failure here.

of course, the concept of imagination vs reality to a creative actually is a complex one. but this sentence took a complex actual issue and reduced it to a cutesy one liner. that was only included cause the author thinks shes being clever. however, if this theme was actually woven into to story? that would be incredibly interesting, and might actually be relatable.

in my own life of the relationships i have had only nick was able to fully pull me out of fantasy and make me want to live in reality, and that was such a new experience for me that it heightened every minute i spent with him. he was enough of a story that i didn't have to invent on top of it. that kind of realization, obviously, never happened in this book.lol.

if anyone is interested in a book that explores this theme with creativity and nuance i would suggest austenland.

i have one more point said in two different ways:

this book is wrong, the hockey player idnt the artist's muse. artists dont actually fall in love with muses. they have muses and those muses inspire a lot of art. but an artist understands that real love separates the muse from an actual partner. to be a partner you need sustainable love and the infatuation of an artistic muse is not sustainable love. you never know when the creativity muse will leave you and transfer to someone else. it is best to fall in love with someone that is more lasting, not simply the current object you want to paint.

the stereotype of artists is that they fall in love with a 'muse' and then make a ton of art about them and then dump them as soon as they move on to a new muse. however in my experience and in what i have seen of artists in long term healthy relationships, true love is separate from infatuation or the love of a muse. i have not ever fallen in love with someone because i simply like to draw them. instead i fall in love with the entire person, with their mind, with their habits and passions. the urge to paint someone is entirely different for me than falling in love and often i dont have any urge to paint the people i fall in love with. i just dont feel that need because i am already seeing them fully. i am with them in real life, i do not need to recreate them in fiction.

now do you spot the difference between the two critiques? one generalizes and tries to paint my personal experience as a universal rule for all artists and therefore the book im reading is wrong and dumb because they wrote the love of an artist differently. versus the second one where i recognize that i am an individual artist with a vastly unique experience compared to other artists and just because this books vision of how an artist loves doesn't match up with my own doesn't mean the book did something wrong....it just means i am not the audience for this book. because i just dont vibe.

now. guess which type of critique this author forced on all the hockey romance books she read before deciding she was Special enough to write her own? This is the entire point of this liveblog. It is just as silly for me to take down her attempt to write an 'artist' as it is for her to spoil the fun and imagination of an entire genre of perfectly fine authors who frankly arent too bothered by hockey accuracy to begin with for the sake of plot consistency and entertainment.
